István Lepsényi: A Leading Figure in the Hungarian Economy

Mr. István Lepsényi, born on September 7, 1949, in Budapest, is one of the key figures in the Hungarian economy. His distinguished career and numerous achievements have left an indelible mark on the industry and economy.

Lepsényi graduated as a mechanical engineer from the St. Petersburg State Institute of Technology and as an economist from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. His career began at Ikarus Body- and Vehicle Factory, where he served as Technical Director from 1974 to 1990. During this period, he was responsible for developing flexible automation and robotics and introducing new types of buses.

In 1991, he became the CEO of Magyar Suzuki Corporation, where he organized and supervised the investment in the factory in Esztergom, and developed the supply and sales network. His next significant role was at Knorr-Bremse Brake Systems Ltd., where, as CEO from 1995 to 2015, he dynamically increased production, improved efficiency and quality, and introduced new products into production.

From 2015 to 2018, Lepsényi served as State Secretary for Economic Development and Regulation at the Ministry of National Economy. He is currently the CEO of VALOR HUNGARIAE Plc., where he organizes the collection and acceptance of Hungarian innovations and mentors accepted projects.

Lepsényi is an active member of several organizations, including the Hungarian Academy of Engineering, the Hungarian Economic Association, and the International Academy for Quality (IAQ). He has received numerous awards and recognitions, including the Széchenyi Prize (1996), the Gábor Dénes Prize (2000), and the honorary title of professor at Kecskeméti Főiskola (2011) and honorary citizen at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (2020).

In addition, he leads the Hungarian Hydrogen Technology Association, where he is committed to the development and implementation of hydrogen technologies in the country. This is the purpose of his visit to the Emobility Eco Forum!
